Geometa Partners with Leading CIS Urban Planning Conference

Geometa proudly served as the general partner of the IV Conference «Digital Transformation and Territory Development Management,» the largest event in the CIS dedicated to the digitalisation of urban planning. Held from July 3-6, this significant event brought together over 250 experts to discuss the latest advancements and challenges in digital transformation and territory development management.

During the conference, our CEO, Alexey Dudarev, delivered an insightful report addressing the barriers to digitalisation in urban planning and sharing the future plans for Geometa’s solutions. Alexey emphasized that effective urban planning development hinges on the collaboration of customer teams, the courage to implement new solutions, and the enthusiasm of the professional community. Thanks to these crucial factors, significant progress has been made in the urban planning digitalisation strategy.

Achievements and Challenges in Urban Planning Digitalisation
In many regions, urban planning documentation is now integrated into urban planning management systems. Applications for all socially important public services are accepted in digital form, and the accumulated information is successfully transferred to the state level and other systems. However, a key contradiction persists: we often work with «digital paper» rather than true data. Documents in PDF format, serving as digital transformation analogues, are stored in databases. This approach has automated decision-making based on documents but not on data.

According to Alexey, the current task is to transform the vast array of information contained in documents into accessible and understandable data. This is particularly crucial for individuals ready to invest organizational and financial resources and managerial energy into applying information technology for territorial development. Geometa is thus focusing on developing specific functionalities to meet this challenge.

Innovative Solutions from Geometa

Decision Support Systems for Top Managers: Executive Dashboards
Our executive dashboards present up-to-date information on urban development activities in a visually intuitive format, using diagrams and cartograms. This new module allows users to track active construction projects, land plot involvement, the status of urban planning documentation, deviations from limit parameters, permitted uses, and other key indicators. Users can assess the dynamics of construction and housing commissioning, evaluate the implementation of commissioning plans by square meters, and identify both existing and future urban planning potentials.

Mobility of Management
The pandemic underscored the importance of competent remote work organization. Given the construction industry’s mobile nature, mobile devices and database access are crucial. Geometa’s mobile solutions portfolio includes:

These solutions cover popular urban planning processes, but Geometa is open to developing mobile applications for any installed module, enhancing mobility across all customer business processes.

Comprehensive Infrastructure Plan for Regional Development
The main issue in current infrastructure development management is the disconnection between territorial and budget planning. Geometa’s tool collects and monitors all infrastructure development decisions, transitioning from disparate documents to a digitally managed data model with analytical functions for monitoring and linking facility data.

Module for Coordination of Engineering Network Trace Projects
This product, developed as part of building digital twins of engineering networks, was showcased at the conference. It allows the accumulation of information on existing networks, their quality, and situational location in the system, and the coordination of draft routes within existing land plots. This year, the module was enhanced to coordinate engineering network traces for planned objects.

Portal Solutions
While an ideal mega-construction portal uniting all participants hasn’t been realized, Geometa continues to innovate. Our geoportal of urban planning documentation information links vector maps to documents, making information accessible to a broad user base. The «Territory Search» module allows analytical processing of information to select sites or buildings based on specific parameters. Future developments include transitioning from formal public project discussions to comprehensive portals integrating projects into the overall territorial development context.

Future Goals: 2024-2025

Alexey Dudarev has set two key goals for Geometa:

  1. Transition to Continuous Digital City Map Updates: Based on engineering surveys, construction, commissioning, improvement processes, and various permits. Geometa plans to use its resources for mapping, aerial photography, and automated identification of territorial changes.
  2. Transition to a Digital Model of Urban Planning Decisions: Fully automating the process of making changes to urban planning documentation digitally, allowing access to the entire history of decisions. This dynamic approach is essential for master planning, integrated territory development, and state development.

Geometa is dedicated to providing effective decision support tools for urban planning, helping to overcome big data and operational management challenges. These tools are already implemented in various regions, continuously enhancing the urban planning landscape.

«As we strive towards an ideal information model of objects and territories, we must focus on integrating an integrated approach for sustainable development, as mandated by the legislation and common sense,» says Alexey Dudarev.

Geometa remains committed to leading the digital transformation of urban planning. By developing innovative solutions and addressing the industry’s challenges, we aim to drive significant progress and contribute to the sustainable development of territories.
